Coming Up...
September 16th - 21st
Gertrude's meets the Slow Food Baltimore Eat In Season Challenge. This week my Chef Brian Greene will be highlighting a three-course all local, all in-season menu as part of Slow Food's year-long restaurant challenge. Inspired by the growing “Locavore” trend Slow Food aims to enhance awareness of the benefits and joys of eating local foods as they come into season here in our region. Eating local, sustainably grown and produced foods decreases the harmful “carbon footprint” of our food purchases, enriches the local economy and helps to preserve the Chesapeake’s traditional foods culture. Not only that – it’s healthy and tastes great too!
Stop in that week and let us prove it to you!

September 18, 2008 - Moveable Feast's Dining Out For Life
This year I'm the Honorary Chairman of Baltimore's Dining Out for Life. Thousands of people in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan Area will participate in one of the most rewarding dining experiences of the year. Moveable Feast's Dining Out for Life event will raise tens of thousands of dollars, thanks to the generosity of community-minded restaurants, sponsors, and those who dine out with their families and friends that day to help our neighbors in need.
By simply eating out at one of the participating restaurants, at least 20 percent of proceeds that day will go to help feed hundreds of men, women, and children right here in our community living with HIV/AIDS, and other life-challenging conditions such as breast cancer.
Mark your calendars now for Dining Out for Life 2008.
This time I'm just going to say: BE THERE!

September 28th
The Baltimore Book Festival
This is one of my favorite events of the year! I'll be at the "Food for Thought" Stage at 1pm cooking up an autumn specialty and afterwards, signing copies of my most recent cookbooks. It's held in the beautiful Mount Vernon Square in downtown Baltimore.
Hope to see you there.

October 4th
Fresh Farm Market in Baltimore's Harbor East
The Harbor East Market is new to Baltimore just this year. Located down along our gorgeous Inner Harbor waterfront in the 1000 block of Lancaster Street it's a classic, urban market. I'll be talking "Sauerkraut" for October - demonstrating how you can easily make it right in your own home and showing off a couple of my favorite sauerkraut recipes.
Yes- it's time to think KRAUT.

17th Annual Chocolate Affair
Yes, it's over... but I can't help doing a little crowing about it because - GERTRUDE'S WON FIRST PRIZE!

Judges declared John Shield's Mojo Spice Bars the "Best Chocolate Treat" among the more than 50 fabulous entries. Congratulations to our Pastry Chef Douglas Wetzel!
